A Panoramic View of One’s own Biography

An artwork in the field of human development inspired by Anthroposophy

The panel offer a vision of one’s life unfolding in images that together form a vast artistic composition (watercolor on paper, 1m x 90cm).

By painting the images of their own biography as a single, unified whole, and then contemplating this visual journey, the individual feels inwardly supported and strengthened to meet the growing call for self-awareness at the threshold of the expanding human consciousness of our time.

The panels are created after the person has gathered and reflected upon the memories and feelings that shape their life story. This artistic experience brings forth a liberating state of consciousness, opening the way for essential questions:
Where did I come from? What have I become? What are my visions for the future?

Rudolf Steiner spoke of the mission of art as a bridge between spirit and matter. In his lectures on the arts, he described artistic practice as a modern path of initiation, through which the artist becomes a co-creator with the divine, transforming spiritual insight into visible form.    https://rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA276

The panel is created in three stages:

  1. The architectural structure and environment of each stage of life
  2. The most significant encounters throughout life
  3. The most meaningful or celebrated actions and achievements.

The painting gradually emerges as a unique and living work of art. The painter perceives the panel spread out before their eyes as a window into another level of self-consciousness.

Rudolf Steiner traced the schooling’s path of anthroposophy as a life’s work — one in which, as Marie Steiner writes in the introduction to The Gospel of St. John.

Belief may be changed into knowledge, and unbelief into understanding https://rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA103

Art, in this sense — as inspired by anthroposophy — can be the realm that reunites science and religion, through the brilliance of concepts, the beauty of form, and the interplay of light and darkness, of color and line.
